The Transformation is Complete-Devens House Has Been Re-Imagined

Welcome to Devens House, one of three classic homes built on the former Wolcott Estate. Over the course of the last year, the Northland team has completely renovated this historic home to meet modern standards.
Perched just beyond the stone pillars marking the front entrance to the estate, Devens offers a glimpse into the comfortable yet sophisticated lifestyle that this exceptional setting has provided its residents over the years. Its formal vestibule, circular staircase, ocular window, and fireplaced study evoke the charm of a traditional English Country House. In “re-imagining” its new status as a free -standing luxury condominium, respecting its original design and character was of utmost importance to the team.

Before starting the renovation, Devens’ history and existing conditions were thoroughly documented. With this information in hand, the interior transformation began by taking it back to the original framework, and included installing new HVAC systems, updating fireplaces, and replacing windows with historic replicas.

Once the plastering, trim work, and painting were done, the brass sconces that formerly graced the dining room fireplace were re-wired and re-hung over the mantle in the living room and the floors were replaced and stained in a rich chestnut.

What was evident throughout the entire process was the integrity of the Devens’ design and the lasting appeal of the craftmanship and finishes evidenced throughout the home. They served as inspiration for the plans for the 50 townhomes to be built at Wolcott Woods. The new architecture is classic and the floor plans are tailored for a comfortable yet sophisticated lifestyle. The new townhomes will be further distinguished by an impressive specification program of quality brands, low maintenance materials, and timeless styles. Known as Distinctive Design Features, many of these finishes were incorporated in the renovation of Devens House.

The kitchen is now equipped with the same appliance brands offered in the new townhomes-a SubZero refrigerator, Asko dishwasher and Wolfe range. The cabinetry, DuraSupreme, is featured in the Devens kitchen and baths. It’s from the painted maple series and is frameless, with crown moldings and light rails, and comes in a variety of rich colors.

In the Devens kitchen the dark blue island makes a dramatic statement by offsetting the white perimeter cabinets. Quartz countertops from the kitchens and bath collection for the townhomes were used throughout the home. Statuario Classique, was chosen for its blue and gray veining, which complements the blue island. The adjacent mud room flooring acts to hide the inevitable traffic marks that the Owner’s entry will be subjected to. It’s from Daltile, another one of the quality brands offered in the townhomes.

With the transformation complete, Devens House now stands proud as an integral part of the Wolcott Woods community and will once again provide the ideal setting for generations to enjoy this classic English Country Home.
